Simon Raab and Greg Fraser found the Res-Tech company in Montreal, Canada on 21st February 1981. Two years later, they change the name to FARO. They begin developing technologies, including software, for complex operations and diagnosis procedures. |

FARO introduces its first device with hinged arm measurement technology. Other models follow the GENUCOM. Sales of Metrecom start in 1987 and sales of Surgicom start in 1988. |

Raab and Fraser recognise parallels between medical 3D diagnosis and processes in component construction with the aid of CAD (Computer Aided Design) in the manufacturing industry. FARO takes a new direction with 3D measurements in manufacturing, which is completed in 1994. |

FARO starts in the European market. The first subsidiary in Europe is in France with branch offices in Warwick (UK) and Ulm (Germany). |

FARO acquires the software company CATS. The new resources make it possible to improve the FARO software AnthroCAM, the precursor of the CAM2 measurement program. FARO also acquires Cats GmbH. A name change to FARO Europe GmbH & Co. KG is carried out. This is followed by the founding of FARO Beteiligungs GmbH, FARO Deutschland Holding GmbH and FARO Verwaltungs GmbH. |

FARO introduces the FARO Gage and wins the EuroMold Gold AWARD in 2003 with the measurement system. The “Oscar” of product development is awarded for outstanding innovation. FARO founds FARO Swiss Holding GmbH and FARO Swiss Manufacturing GmbH in Beringen (Switzerland). |

FARO incorporates phase shift laser technology in its product portfolio with the acquisition of the innovative German company iQvolution AG (->FARO Scanning GmbH) and iQsun GmbH (->FARO Scanner Production GmbH). This opens new customer markets in the areas of mining, geology, archaeology, monument protection, architecture, petrochemicals, and forensic medicine. |

FARO establishes its official headquarters for Asia and the Pacific region in Singapore. FARO founds FARO Benelux B.V. in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) and FARO Technologies Polska sp. z. o. o. in Poznan (Poland). |

FARO UK moves to a larger office at the Middlemarch Business Park near Coventry Airport. The move has become necessary as the UK team has grown steadily over the past years. The new office also provides a better base for expanded customer service and training. |

FARO generates more than 209 million dollars of turnover worldwide in 2008. Meanwhile, there are now more than 20,000 installations at customers such as Airbus, Boeing, Caterpillar, Daimler, General Motors, Honda, Johnson Controls, and Volkswagen. On one hand, FARO has large blue-chip firms as clients, but on the other hand, almost 75 percent of FARO customers come from small- to medium-sized companies. |
