Non-Contact Inspection

Fragile, complex and free-form surfaces can be captured as a dense and detailed 3D point cloud by the FARO® ScanArm® and Laser Scanner, allowing users to perform non-contact, 3D inspections with ease.

Non-contact 3D scanning from FARO can digitize features such as flush and gap that are difficult to inspect with contact methods. Laser scanning for 3D documentation can be a faster method of verifying many features and dimensions and it produces a more comprehensive and easier-to-read report. For as-built documentation it is simply the best show in town.

 Return to Applications Overview

  • FARO Meets Customer’s Automotive to Music Instrument Application Needs with New 3D Metrology Technology

    Automotive: MSK. Inc.
Since integrating the FaroArm to its manufacturing operations, MSK has reduced the amount of time spent on positioning components, setting up measurement devices, and performing the actual measurement process. A job that used to take half a day to complete now only requires one to two hours, allowing MSK to enjoy significant time-savings.
  • Quality Management: ‘Colors’ vs ‘Points and Numerical Values’

Automotive: Daihatsu Metal Co., Ltd. – Hino Plant
Daihatsu Metal had previously already implemented a FaroArm at its other plant in Izumo. Once, the Hino Plant asked the Izumo Plant for assistance to cope with the heavy measurement workload. The team at Hino needed help to meet a deadline and their colleagues from the Izumo Plant produced the measurements for them in a timely fashion. The results were also presented in color map reports, which made it simple to understand. After this incident, the team at Hino conducted a review and decisively purchased a 6-ft FaroArm for their facility in July 2014.
  • Future-building Through Reliable Quality Management

Machine Shop: A.E.S. Advanced Engineering Systems Co., Ltd.
A.E.S. acquired the FaroArm in 2010 to address its inspection needs. Given that the company’s main business activities are export-related, its profits are primarily dependent on the quality of its output. Any failure on its part to ensure perfection would mean scrapping of the products after export, which can result in losses in the range of millions of yuan.
