As a public company, we are deeply committed to practicing good citizenship and global sustainability. We address a variety of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) issues that impact our organization, our customers and the communities we serve through established programs and policies that drive operational excellence and maintain the highest standards possible. We also take the appropriate steps to ensure that our supply chain partners adhere to our principles and practices, including the sourcing of raw materials.

Whether reducing our carbon footprint, embracing ethical business practices, supporting our communities or ensuring the proper oversight of our operations and data, we take our responsibility to global sustainability seriously. To learn more about our ESG programs, click on the tabs below.

Carbon Footprint

Reducing our carbon footprint and use of natural resources is an integral part of our business practices and the production of our world-class products. Where possible, we design and manufacture our products using environmentally-friendly materials. As a virtual company long before the global pandemic, we continue to limit the need for employee travel and the use of carbon-emitting fossil fuels.

Recycling

Across our offices and manufacturing facilities around the world, we have institutionalized programs to conserve electricity and reduce solid waste. We incorporate best practices for recycling paper products and manufacturing scrap, disposing computer equipment and raw materials, and conserving energy and water.

Supply Chain

Our suppliers play an important role in our sustainability efforts. As part of our Supplier Code of Conduct, our external partners are required to comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. Suppliers will endeavor to reduce or eliminate solid waste, wastewater and air emissions by implementing appropriate conservation measures in their production, maintenance and facility processes. In addition, suppliers will comply with the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive for all goods they manufacture and provide to FARO as well as the EU regulation regarding Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).

Ethical Business Practices

We are proud to have a diverse global workforce and work hard to foster a culture of trust that provides a safe and secure environment for all. The health and safety of our employees is our topmost priority. We promote employee health, education and welfare through comprehensive benefits that include wellness resources, access to assistance programs and a flexible work schedule that encourages a healthy work-life balance.

We base employment decisions strictly on qualification, skills and performance. We are committed to equal opportunity in all phases of employment, including recruitment, hiring, placement, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, training, education and social and recreational programs. We disavow discrimination based on race, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ethnicity or national origin, disability, pregnancy, religion, political affiliation, union membership, covered veteran status, protected genetic information or marital status. Employee compensation complies with all applicable laws, including those relating to minimum wages, overtime hours and legally mandated benefits.

We also disavow inhumane treatment of workers, including any sexual harassment, sexual abuse, corporal punishment, mental or physical coercion or verbal abuse, and provide for a workforce free of harassment and unlawful discrimination. We respect the human rights of our employees and those involved in our business operations. We prohibit activities involving slave or forced labor, human trafficking and child labor. We uphold the human rights of workers and treat them with respect as understood by the international community. These policies and rights extend to employees and temporary, migrant, student and contract workers.

Corporate Giving

We support the communities we serve through ongoing corporate giving and employee volunteerism activities. We understand the importance of giving back and are proud to partner with charities and provide ways for our employees and their families to get involved. Over the years, we have supported a variety of charitable organizations and activities including UNICEF, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and local public safety departments.

We continue to provide technology to advance academic research and to preserve history and culture. We also offer diversity-focused STEM internships and career opportunities to students as part of FARO University and our New Graduates Development Programs.

Oversight

Our Global Ethics Policy sets the ethical and legal standards of behavior and business practices that are required of all our employees around the world. We require all board members and employees to complete training and certify compliance with our code. Other required employee training includes annual courses on bribery, corruption and insider trading. We encourage an open atmosphere that provides for confidential reporting, including a third-party Ethics Hotline and non-retaliation practices. These efforts and policies are routinely reviewed by the board of directors and outside agencies. See our Investor Relations and Leadership and Governance pages to access governance documents, board committee charters and board of directors, and executive officer biographies.

Data Security

We maintain a rigorous cybersecurity infrastructure to reduce risk and protect sensitive and proprietary digital information through commercially reasonable administrative, technical, personnel and physical security measures. Our data security network safeguards employee and customer data, adhering to all regulatory requirements in the countries we serve, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union.
