Completing a difficult hospital renovation using 3D construction technology

Facility managers for the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas, needed to renovate and redesign the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to streamline and support more patient care — and fortunately their construction partners decided to use 3D scanning technology throughout the project, because there were some critical challenges.

Part of the mechanical room infrastructure had been modified so many times it was now out of compliance. And the new ICU structure needed to connect seamlessly to the rest of the hospital. But the existing drawings were off.

Despite these challenges, the team at SMA Engineering shaved four months off the project schedule. Watch here to see how they used 3D construction technology solutions to meet these renovation challenges and come out ahead.
